Salamon has a different surname to his siblings because he was born in Poland after the family fled from Russia, and the Polish authorities did not recognise his parents' marriage certificate as valid, so he had to take his mother's maiden name of 'Finkel'.
Life in England
Before the Second World War, Salamon moved to England with his wife Hanja, but despite having qualified as a doctor at university in Vienna, he was not allowed to practice without the supervision of another doctor.
During the SWW he was able to essentially run his own practice in Macclesfield, owned by two doctors, one of which passed away and the other went into the RAF. Salamon's niece Ruth went to live with them there for three years before she got married.
Salamon eventually was able to practice within the NHS, and lived and worked in Barnsley until he died.
