In 1910, Karl went to visit London to see what it was like, but he found there to be too much fog, so returned to Vienna after two weeks.
During the Second World War, Karl managed to escape to Belgium with his son Willy, but got separated from wife Luzi.
Karl and Willy ended up being interned in Paris, where they survived because Willy insisted on doing all of the hard labour for his father. They settled in Paris when the war was over.
