Remembrance Day

At 11am on 11th November 1919, exactly a year after the
Armistice brought an end to the First World War, the country
stopped to remember those whom they had lost.

For the last 101 years the nation has continued this tradition
of holding a two-minute silence to honour and remember
the sacrifice made by millions of men and women in armed
conflicts around the globe.

What else do we remember?

On Remembrance Day we not only remember the soldiers on
the battlefields, but also; the nurses who devoted their lives to caring
for the wounded, the families who lost fathers, brothers, sons and
daughters, and the communities who never fully recovered as
a result of those who never returned home.

We remember all military personnel and civilians
who have been affected by conflict around the world,
from the First World War and beyond.

How do we remember?

Local communities, youth groups, schools, religious groups and
many more gather at cenotaphs and war memorials to lay wreaths
of poppies as a sign of remembrance and commemoration for the
sacrifice made.
