The War Years
He remained with his family in London for the first few years of the war before going to Reading to stay safe from the bombings. In Reading they shared a house with another family due to lack of space.
Rabbi
He never took any money for being a Rabbi. He was very well known in the East End and his son Benedict remembered many people coming to hear him speak at the High Holy Days. They actually needed Police to assist with crowd-control as he was such a great orator. He would go to all the Shul's with his Smicha and once left in in a Siddur where it was stolen.
Russian Army
He did not want to be conscripted into the Russian Army so he ran away. He hid in a graveyard, dressed as a woman and Rebecca would bring him food before he managed to get on a boat and escape.
Rebecca's Lineage
Rebecca was descended from Rabbi Meir Katzenellenbogen, a famous Italian Rabbi who was the Chief Rabbi of Padua and Venice around 1560.

He campaigned alongside Rabbi Cooke for the Balfour Declaration.
