The painfully long list of losses sustained by the Sunderland community has again been lengthened by the death in action of Pte W Marks, Yorks and Lancs Regt, who leaves a young widow and a child to mourn his loss. In a letter conveying the sad news to Mrs Marks, the Commanding Officer pays a high tribute to the qualities of the fallen soldier. Pte Marks, who was thirty-four years of age, had many friends but no enemies. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The sympathy of the members of the Sunderland community goes out in great volume to the bereaved relatives. May God send them consolation in their sorrow. - S. D.
