2nd-Lieut Walter Louis Behrens, who was killed on July 10th, was the twin son of Mr Walter Behrens of 18 Rue Washington, Paris and of the late Evelyn Behrens, daughter of Mr S. H. Beddington of 21 Hyde Park Square. He was born in Paris in 1897. He and his twin brother came to England at the age of seventeen to join the Army and after training at the Inns of Court O.T.C. he was gazetted to the R.F.A. on September 15th where he remained continuously until his death. His colonel writes:- "It is very hard to tell you what a terrible loss he is to the brigade where he was universally liked. He absolutely knew no fear and with it all he always kept a cool head in trying circumstances. I had a great admiration for him and the men of his section adored him and feel his loss greatly." He was recently commended in divisional despatches. His brother, who is also at the front, has been awarded the Military Cross.
