Simon moved from Odessa, Russia to Israel with his fiance between 1910 - 1912. They were driven out by the Turks and managed to escape on the last boat from Jaffa to Alexandra (they later named their daughter Alexandra). To gain citizenship in England, Simon joined the British Army at the start of the First World War.
During the First World War

During the War he was on a ship going to Turkey when it torpedoed, he was one of the lucky few who survived and it is believed he may have been taken as a Prisoner of War. However, he survived and later reunited with his wife in Egypt.
Post-War

Simon had become a British Citizen due to his contribution to the British Army and moved to Little Goodge Street (now Goodge Place), just off Tottenham Court Road, at the end of the First World War. He later had six children.
