Battle of La Bassée Canal
While posted in France Ralph fought in the Battle of La Bassée Canal where he was wounded, he sustained one gunshot wound to the arm and another to the chest, luckily he was carrying a metal cigarette case in his breast-pocket which deflected the bullet and prevented any more serious injury.
Prisoner of War
After fighting at La Bassée Ralph was captured and made a prisoner of war. However his mother back home received a telegram informing her that her son was missing and pressumed dead. It was only later that they discovered that Ralph was alive and being held as a POW where he remained until the end of the war.
After the War
After returning home from the war Ralph got a job as an office boy in Paramount pictures, he worked his way up from there becoming a film distributor. In this role over the years Ralph met some of the world's biggest stars, including John Wayne.
