Tenison's Roll of Honour Entry

Philip Levy was the son of Mr. Sim Levy of Abdulla's, the famous tobacco firm, and was only twenty-four at the time of his death. He was at Tenison's 1906-'08 and although only a comparatively short time with us, he showed himself a lad of great ability and promise with a charming personality and great strength of character. We remember him chiefly for his ever-ready smile, while his happy disposition made him a general favourite at school. He was for some years at Abdulla's in the Secretary's office and both the principals and the staff of the firm manifested great interest in his career, and are deeply moved by his tragic end. Phil was a Freemason, a member of the Hemming Lodge and was "raised" at the Sir Walter Raleigh Lodge (of which his father is a member) last May. He joined the Hon. Artillery Company in November 1915 and left for the front on September 29th, 1916. He was killed on December 6th, 1916. The manner of his death was as follows and is given in the words of his Company Commander, by whose side he was killed: "He was killed instantaneously, whilst acting as one of my guides. This post demands courage, determination and presence of mind."
