Friday Night Dinners in Jerusalem
When they arrived to Jerusalem, all the Jews came out happy and he was sure he'd get an invite to a Shabbat dinner but no one was interested. Eventually he and his friend received one invite and attended but when they returned to the barracks they were punished as they hadn't been given any leave and were confined to the barracks.
Declining to move
Philip was the only Jew in the London Irish Battalion and he got on so well with his comrades he declined the opportunity to transfer to the mainly Jewish Battalions of the Royal Fusiliers who also took part in the Campaign.
