Alleged Malicious Prosecution (Sydney Morning Herald) [Breakdown of Marriage], 19 April 1917
Mrs. Marjorie Raphael has instituted an action for damages for alleged malicious prosecution against Walter Raphael, her father-in-law, arising out of an action In July, 1915. Counsel stated that plaintiff's husband, Norman Raphael, was killed in France in 1916. Plaintiff gave evidence that she received £1200 annually under a marriage settlement.
[Mrs. Raphael, said to be well known in Australia, was charged in 1915 at the Old Bailey with alleged fraud and false pretences in obtaining £500 worth of jewellery, and using the money secured by it to pay debts
owing to a drapery firm. Counsel for the defence alleged that Walter Raphael was paying for the prosecution of his own daughter-in
law. Her husband was an officer serving with the army in France. The jury acquitted Mrs. Raphael.]
