Internment

Months after the war broke out, Nathan was interned alongside many other foreign immigrants at a special prison camp in the Isle of Man. They were deemed as enemy aliens! It was due to the fact that Poland at that time was an ally of Germany, having been a part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire.

In 1916, he was freed with many others and came back to London to meet up with fellow emigres. The government of the day had decided he was no longer a threat to King and Country!

Even after he was released, he had to report frequently to the local police station at Lemon Street or Commercial Street.
