According to his service records, Myer was injured in the field in August 1917 by accidentally falling on his bayonet whilst jumping into the trench. This incident went to the Court of Inquiry to determine whether it was an accident, or caused by gross negligence.
On 31/8/1917 it was decided that the incident was an accident, and Myer would not be tried by Court Martial. He was able to return to active service by the end of September.
