Volunteered On a Bet
According to Myer's brother Louis Black, somebody bet Myer half a crown that they wouldn't accept him because he was foreign born, and blinded in one eye, and this is how he ended up in the army.
His Last Leave
On his last leave, younger brother Maurice took Myer out and they got drunk, and he came back in his regalia, hat, rifle and bayonet. On the second last night before he was due to go back to France he came in through the kitchen door and made five slashes with a bayonet, remembered clearly by younger brother Louis.
Impact on the Family
Myer's sister Della didn't believe it when the news came that he had been killed, so she wrote to the Home Office to be sure it was true. The Officer in Command said yes unfortunately it was true, he died on on the way to the Dressing Station after being wounded.
