Private Moses Althousen, who served as Morris Althansen, was an English soldier of the British Army who died during the First World War.
He was born in 1896, in St George in the East, the son of slipper maker Jacob and Millie Althousen (née Tropp), originally of Russia and Austria, respectively. As Althansen, he enlisted on 12 August 1914, at which time he was working as a labourer.
Aged 20, Althansen died on 1 July 1916, on the first day of the Somme Offensive, while serving on the Western Front with the 1st Battalion, The King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment).
He has no known grave and is commemorated by the Thiepval Memorial.
