Private Michael Hart, Machine Gun Corps, was the eldest son of Mr. Hart and the late Mrs. Hart of Vartry Road, Stamford Hill. He died of wounds received in action on March 28th. In a letter of sympathy to the family, the Rev. Israel Brodie, Jewish Chaplain, wrote: "I was with your late son immediately after he had been operated upon, and his bravery and resignation at the time were indeed remarkable. It may be some consolation to you to know that he was buried according to Jewish rites, and that the bearers of the coffin were Jewish boys stationed in Rouen, who came to pay their last respects to their fallen coreligionist." A brother, Raphael, was killed in action on January 6th, 1917. Much sympathy is felt for Mr Hart and his family in their double sacrifice for the Empire's cause.
