HMS Bulwark Explosion, 26 November 1914
Michael was killed by an internal explosion on the HMS Bulwark on the 26 of November 1914. The ship was anchored at Sheerness and was ripped apart at 7.50am. Out of a crew of 750, there were only 14 survivors who were all ordinary sailors; no officers survived. This incident remains the second most catastrophic accidental explosion in the history of the United Kingdom, exceeded only by the explosion of Battleship Vanguard at Scapa Flow in 1917.
