This letter was translated from the original German into English by Kurt Lion. It became a tradition in our family for my grandfather (Kurt Lion) to read this letter aloud at family seders in the 1970s and 1980s. My mother (Nicole Berenson) has continued this tradition. My mother tells me that this was one of the highlights of her family seders as a child as it evoked memories of a seder which her grandfather organised when he was a soldier in the German Army.
