Yet another name must be added to the painfully long list of members and sons of members of the Brixton Synagogue who have given their lives to the cause of England and of righteousness. It was on the seventh day of Passover, according to an intimation received from a trench comrade, that Pte. M. Isaacs, Northumberland Fusiliers, failed to reply to the roll-call. He was therefore assumed to be missing. The news which came last Monday week conveyed the tidings of his death in action. Martin Isaacs was not only a devoted son but a very generous and genuine friend, ever ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Professionally known as "Romain", he attained very considerable popularity as a Pianist and was highly regarded and admired by his colleagues for his artistic qualities as well as for his charming and charitable disposition. His father, Mr H Isaacs of 115 Sudbourne Road, Brixton Hill, has received many tokens of sympathy from various organisations with which he was actively connected. Not the least sincere among these is the sympathy expressed or otherwise which will be widely felt by his fellow members of the congregation, by whom he is so well esteemed.
