Bullet Wound

Marks was wounded in Arras in 1917 with a bullet wound to the back/shoulder. His daughter Doreen remembers he had an indent in his shoulder, and though he never spoke about the war, he would make jokes about his injury - and it always made her stomach churn to look at.

Occupational Therapy

During his time being treated for his injury in St Thomas' Hospital in London, he learnt how to stitch a photo frame (which you can see in the gallery) as part of his recovery. Dorothy says he taught all of his children children how to do it, and they all have photographs of each other and other members of the family framed in this way.
