The cemetery was founded by the Manchester Reform Synagogue, and is now closed. The land was bought by the Manchester Congregation of British Jews (Manchester Reform Synagogue) in 1856 and the first internment was in 1857. The last burial seems to have been 1992.

The cemetery contains three Commonwealth War Graves from the First World War: Private Godfrey Cyril Marks, Private Maurice Avner and Captain Henry Theodore Dreschfeld, all of whom died due to wounds sustained in active service.
