This Collection is courtesy of Liverpool City Archives, and contains photographs, letters and postcards written by alumni of the Liverpool Hebrew Schools who served in the First World War.

In the Autumn of 1914, the headmaster of the Liverpool Hebrew Schools requested that the Old Boys serving in the forces send photographs and details of their service. This Collection contains some of the replies he received, and all of these men now have Personal Records if you would like to learn more about each of their stories. 

There is also a letter written from the Old Boys Association congratulating one of their own, Alexander Cohen, on his receipt of the Distinguised Conduct Medal for conspicuous gallantry. Alexander served both with the King's Liverpool and the Welsh Regiment, and it was whilst serving with the latter that he received the DCM, "for conspicuous gallantry. When an enemy bomb fell in the trench he rushed forward and detonated the fuse with his feet, this stopping the explosion of the bomb and saving several casualties."

Also incuded in this Collection is the Roll of Honour of the Liverpool Hebrew Schools, containing all of the names of past students who served in the First World War.
