Military Service

Solomon settled in Canada just before the war and it was there that he volunteered on the day that Britain entered the conflict. He joined the 32nd Battalion as an other rank, but ill-health meant that he was prevented from travelling with the battalion to Europe. His subsequent discharge resolved him to undergo an operation to remedy his difficulties, after which he proceeded to Britain. Solomon enlisted at Shorncliffe Camp on 17 April 1916 and obtained a commission in the 1st Battalion, The King's Own Scottish Borderers in November. He went to the Western Front two weeks later and was killed on 23 April 1917, during the Arras Offensive
