Family legend
Joe's daughter Evelyn, my mother, told me that Grandpa never slept the night through awaking from nightmares of the Western Front where he was making and filling body bags. Prior to that he had a "cushy number" making unifoms for officers at Edinburgh Castle. Sadly I never knew him as he died before I was born.

She also said that Annie his wife, would sometimes be wearing a fur coat but more often than not it was at the pawnbrokers, to finance Joe's gambling.
