What was the impact of this:

He was not for the war and was conscripted into a Labour Battalion in 1917/18. He is not believed to have wanted to fight but was not declared a conscientious objector, but those that went to such battalions were considered to be.

He was posted to the farm in Sevenoaks and went missing. There are no records from 1918 to 1939 of his existence.
