JC Obituary, 31 May 1918
KAVARSKY - Pte Joe Kavarsky, K.O.R.L., who was killed in action in France on May 13th, was the son of Mr and Mrs M. Kavarsky of 193 Bury New Road Manchester. The deceased soldier was an old pupil at the Waterloo Road School and a member of the Jewish Lads' Brigade. He was very popular among the men attached to his battalion and his commanding officer spoke of him in the highest terms as a brave and efficient soldier. Kavarsky was buried with Jewish rites. The prayers were read by Pte. M. Glaskie, an old friend of the family, who was with the deceased at the time of death. In a letter to his parents, the Chaplain referred to him in eulogistic terms. Kavarsky was nineteen years of age.

Joe's brother Jack told the family that his brother had been marching along with many others under a bridge when there was an explosion, and they were all killed.
