Israel's wife Leah appealed to the Foreign Jews Protection Committee pleading destitution due to her husband's imprisonment as a CO.

The Committee granted her an advance of 10 shillings and an extra 10 shillings on her allowance due to her situation.

What was the impact of this:

Drafted into combatant unit and disobeyed orders as a Conscientious Objector. Court-Martialled at Warrington on 25/05/1918 and sentenced to 6 months Hard Labour at Wormwood Scrubs prison. Because of illness he decided to accept the Home Office Scheme - given the chance to work at labour camps around the country- and from 24/10/1918 spent time at Meyland camp in South Wales.
