Fall of Baghdad, 1917
Bert was present after the fall of Baghdad and described how he comforted frightened Jews with some words in Hebrew. He also said that on a Saturday after the fall he saw the Hakham Bashi (Chief Rabbi) wearing a Turkish uniform enter the city in a horse drawn carriage.
Lawrence of Arabia
At some point during his time driving an armoured car in the Mesopotamian Campaign Bert met T.E Lawrence the famous archaeologist and military diplomat upon whom the Lawrence of Arabia tale is based.
