"I only knew about his "war record" in the latter stages of his life, my mother saying he was worried about how people might react but my response was to teasingly start addressing him as "Sir," - he was an incredibly gentle man akin to Captain Wilson from Dads Army who would resort to that same grin when anyone in authority came unstuck - he loved a good political scandal."

Harry was a Conscientious Objector, and was imprisoned in Dartmoor, September 1917 - March 1918, and Wakefield Prison, June 1918 - July 1919.

He took an autograph book with him, in which himself and his fellow inmates wrote poems, messages, and draw pictures and cartoons.
