Wounded

Gabriel received a gunshot wound to his right leg in April 1918 in Arras, resulting in his leg having to be amputated below the knee at the No. 1 Canadian General Hospital in Etaples, France.

He was then shipped back to the UK, and treated in Edinburgh War Hospital and 2nd Northern General Hospital at Beckett Park, Leeds, where he was fitted with an artificial limb in May 1919.
