Translation of Ernest's army records:
"Ernest lived in Duesseldorf, when he started military service on october 15th in 1913 in the 6th battery of an field artillery regiment. He was made a lance corporal on 7th january 1915 and he got the iron cross 2nd class on september 3rd 1915. On july 26th 1915 he seems to be wounded at his back [I'm not sure if I got that right], he served at the regiment Nr. 82 of a field battery in 1913-15 an in 1915-16. On 16th of february 1916 he came to a military hospital (page 9). On the same page you can see all the battles he was in. His command/leadership always was good, he never had any punishment. He stayed at the hospital until may 22nd 1916, came to the substitute battery of the 82nd regiment first on may 23rd and on july 10th 1916 to the 2nd field artillery regiment Nr. 82 again (page 11). He was dismissed on november 30th 1918 in Duesseldorf and transferred to the district command in Duesseldorf.
From August 26th to september 7th 1917 he was in the military hospital because of gastroenteritis, and on november 7th 1917 he was wounded by a shrapnel/shell splinter on his left hand middle finger and ring finger why he came back to the hospital on november 8th 1917."
