Battle of Jerusalem - London Gazette, 1917
Awarded MC for actions in the Battle of Jerusalem during the night of 7-8 December 1917 and the nights before: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Six nights prior to advance, he reconnoitred the road to be followed by the brigade and it is due to these efforts that the brigade reached the position of deployment on the scheduled time. He then led his company to the assault with marked ability and courage in the face of heavy fire and having gained his objective drove off three hostile counter attacks with complete success.
