Family legend
Edward was a signaler and was asked on one occasion to carry a message behind the lines to HQ. As Edward crawled out of the trench he saw the enemy soldier who lifted his weapon and shot Edward in his leg. Edward managed to crawl back into a trench where a SGT found him, and fireman's lifted him to the aid station.

One night Edward was on sentry duty at the front gate of the barracks and heard a loud bang. He yelled a challenge received no reply so following procedure fired his weapon at the front gate. Turns out it was merely a donkey!
