David Lea/Levy seems to have enlisted once in January 1915 in the 12 battalion of the Manchester Regiment, but been discharged in February for making a mis-statement as to his age.
He then seems to have enlisted again a few weeks later as David Levy, in the 17th Battalion, as the characteristics (scar on right shoulder), appearance and address are all the same on his papers, but then been discharged in July of that year for the same reason as previously.
On his discharge papers his military character is described as 'indifferent'.
