The cemetery was acquired around 1897 by the Central Synagogue, and later also used by the North Manchester Synagogue – the two merged together in 1978. Jack White, Salford lad and recipient of the Victoria Cross in the First World War is buried here. Harris Rolbin, originally from Middleton in Manchester, but who served in the Australian Armed Forces, and died in 1917 from gunshot wounds is also buried in Blackley Cemetery.
