Family legend
He moved to South Africa in 1912. On his return to England in 1917, he told his younger sisters that he had accrued high gambling debts in South Africa and had joined the army in order to leave the country, return to England and avoid his debts. This may also explain why he signed up as Harry Saville, in order to hide from anyone who could be trying to find him.
Physical Attributes as described by sister, Faye
He was around 140 pounds, 5'7 and was missing one of his little fingers. Faye said he was a champion swimmer, boxer and that his little finger was bitten off by a "black man".
Going to South Africa
When he left school, he worked for his father for a little while but when the business closed and he became unemployed, he went to South Africa.
