Changing name
The young Cohen boys saw the name Cowan on a shop front and decided that they liked it so adopted that and replaced Cohen.
Isn't this New York?
When the family left Poland, they were told they were going to New York but were offloaded in England and ended up in the East End
Father's career
Sam was a tailor in a factory and Esther sewed buttons and seams. Their sons told Sam to stop working in the factory for terrible wages and to stay home and make suits for the family, which he did.
Learning Hebrew
After school the boys would go see the Rabbi to learn Hebrew and the Rabbi used to carry a stick and would hit them with it if they misbehaved.
