Henry – Sec. Lieut Arthur Richard Henry (eldest son of Mr nad Mrs. Alfred Henry, 120. Fortsdown Road, Maida Vale), whose death we record above, was a pupil both of the City of London School and University College School. He was articled to his father's firm, and passed his final examination as a chartered accountant in 1911. For some years he was an active manager of the Stepney Club and an- officer of the Jewish Lads Brigade. In 1912 be organised a march of a squad of twenty-five lads from London to Deal. Like many other of the Brigade officers, he was a Freemason and a member of the Halcyon Lodge. He joined the University Public Schools Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers on its formation early in September, 1914 and served with them in France in 1915. Returning in May of 1916 to take a commission, he was gazetted to a Middlesex Regiment in September, 1916, and returned again to France early in November. His younger brother. Cyril, has likewise been serving in France since August 1914, having joined up at the outbreak of war. He left England with the original Expeditionary Force and was at the retreat of Mons. The sad news of Arthur's death was conveyed to his parents by Cyril, who had located where the regiment was and went over to see his brother, only to learn that he had been killed two days previously. The colonel told Cyril that Arthur fell while gallantly leading his men over the top, being but within ten yards of the German trenches: He said that the regiment had lost a popular and efficient officer. The chaplain wrote: "he died nobly, he was liked by all, and would be greatly missed." His company commander, who was wounded the same day, writes from a London hospital: "I can truthfully say he was one of the bravest officers I have known, and always did his duty most conscientiously. Anyone in the regiment will tell you the same thing."
