Sergt Martin was a pupil at the Orphan School of the Spanish and Portuguese Congregation. At the age of sixteen he joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and was sent to India where he became Mason through good conduct. He served through the Boer War. Four years ago he married GHrace Miranda of 45 Tredegar Road, Bow. Last June he finished his service and was about to receive his discharge on his return from Malta. On the outbreak oif the war however, he was called up and sent to the front. He reveibed a fatal wound during a bayonet charge at Ypres on the 19th of last month. Sergt. Martin was the proud possessor of the good conduct medal.
