After moving to Golders Green in the 1920s Alfred Abraham Naar was elected to Hendon Urban District Council and the London County Council and finally Hendon Borough Council. He was the Mayor twice from 1939 - 1940 nad from 1940 - 1941. He subsequently became Father of the Council as its longest serving member until his retirement in about 1964.

During the war Alfred Abraham Naar won the MBE. London Gazette 4 January 1918 after being torpedoed whilst carrying documents between Holland and UK for the War Office.
