Aaron was born Aron Nogacz in Zagorow, a small town in Western Poland, and moved to the UK in 1902, on a boat from Hamburg to Grimsby. He went on from Grimsby to settle in Leeds.

He was the second oldest in a family of 7 children (2 boys and 5 girls). Three of them (Aaron, Ellen and Celia) settled in Leeds, whilst his parents, other siblings and their families remained in Poland and, as far as we know, didn't survive WW2.

By 1911 he was living in Middlesbrough, but by the time he signed up for service in the army he was back in Leeds. On his return, Aaron married Rachel Ginsberg in 1921, and in 1933 the couple and their son Cyril moved from Leeds to Southport.
