Basic Information

Established in 1914 at the outbreak of war, the hospital’s main site was on Whitworth Street in Central Manchester. Initially 520 beds were provided at this site in Central High School for Boys, but many other locations were sort and used across the city and the surrounding towns during the duration of the war, totalling 25,000 beds under one central command.
