The Fallen (Jewish Chronicle)

News has reached Mr and Mrs M Lippman, 12 Whitehouse Road Sunderland, that there son, Pte S Lippman, The Border Regiment, was killed in action in France on April 23. Pte S Lippman was one of three brothers fighting in France and had an excellent record as a soldier. He was twice wounded in the Gallipoli campaign where he distinguished himself by his conduct and was on his recovery sent with his regiment to France, where he was engaged for several months in severe fighting. The Commanding Officer who conveys the news of his death, writes in his letter: "I hope it may be some consolation to you in your sorrow to know that he died a true soldier's death in an attack which was pressed home with courage and resolution seldom. If ever surpassed in the annals of this regiment of the British Army." Much sympathy is felt by us all with the aged, broken-hearted parents in their loss of a loyal devoted son, who has for many years been their mainstay and support and source of comfort - S.D.
