Signing Up

When war broke out in 1914 Jack first joined the British Army at the age of 16, when his mother, Fay, found out she revealed his true age and had him pulled out. Jack then again joined at the age of 17 and once again his mother had him removed. In 1916 at the true age of 18 Jack was called up to serve his country.

Silver Cigarette Box

Jack carried a silver cigarette box in his breast pocket, one time he opened it and inside he found not only his cigarettes but also a bullet, fortunately Jack himself survived the war completely unscathed.
